NUCLEAR MEDICINE

The Nuclear Medicine offers non-invasive imaging procedures that use small amounts of radioactive materials to help diagnose and determine the severity of disease. Non-invasive procedures include myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, bone scintigraphy, three phase bone scintigraphy, thyroid scintigraphy, RBC tagging, and renal scintigraphy. Other services include parathyroid scintigraphy, lung perfusion scan, lung ventilation scan, cholescintigraphy, liver scintigraphy, spleen scintigraphy, Meckel’s diverticulum scintigraphy, radionuclide ventriculography, infection scintigraphy, and total body scan. Radioimmunoassay tests, a sensitive and specific laboratory tests that uses radiolabelled substances to evaluate thyroid diseases, will also be offered by the nuclear medicine section. These tests include TSH, fT3, fT4, T3 and T4. There will also be therapeutic procedures to treat overactive thyroid gland (Grave’s disease) and thyroid cancer and to treat painful tumor metastases to the bones.
